Three-phase pad-mounted transformer oil tank consists of two parts: the front and the rear. The front section contains the high-voltage and low-voltage operating compartments (front compartments), housing the high-voltage terminals, load switch operating mechanism, off-circuit tap changer, plug-in fuses, surge arresters, and low-voltage distribution equipment (such as circuit breakers and instruments), respectively.

The rear section is a sealed oil-filled tank and radiator assembly. The transformer's three-phase windings and core, high-voltage load switch, backup current-limiting fuses, and other key live​ components are all submerged in insulating oil.
