Which Type Of Transformer Cooling Fan Is Best?

Cross-flow fans and axial flow fans are currently the two most widely used types of transformer cooling fans. Cross-flow fans have advantages in heat dissipation uniformity and space adaptability, making them particularly suitable for the cooling needs of dry-type transformers.

Cross-flow fans: The ideal choice for dry-type transformers. Cross-flow fans (also known as cross-flow fans) are widely considered the ideal cooling solution for dry-type transformers due to their unique airflow characteristics:

Wide planar airflow: Airflow moves radially along the impeller, forming an "airflow curtain" that covers the entire side surface of the transformer, achieving more uniform heat dissipation. Tests show that it can reduce hot spot temperatures by 8-12℃.

Compact structure: The flat design facilitates installation on the side of the transformer without occupying additional height space, making it suitable for space-constrained distribution rooms or indoor substations.

Low noise operation: Through optimized impeller design (such as unequal-pitched blades and serrated leading edges) and vibration reduction measures, noise can be controlled below 65dB(A), making it suitable for noise-sensitive environments.

Energy-efficient and High-Performance: A well-designed system can achieve the same or even better cooling effect with less power. For example, in one case, the total power of the cross-flow fan was 600W, saving 25% more energy than the original 800W axial flow fan.

Axial Flow Fans: A versatile solution with high airflow and cost-effectiveness. Axial flow fans move air in a straight line along the axis, forming a columnar airflow jet, suitable for various transformer cooling scenarios:

Large Airflow and Low Cost: Simple structure and low manufacturing cost, suitable for large oil-immersed or dry-type transformers requiring high airflow for heat dissipation.

Flexible Installation: Supports floor mounting and ceiling mounting, and can be installed horizontally or vertically to adapt to different site layouts.

Excellent Energy Saving Performance: Under the same cooling effect, ventilation costs are only half that of centrifugal fans.

Recommended models include the DBF2-9Q10 low-noise bottom-blowing axial flow fan, which uses rust-resistant aluminum blades and a low-noise motor, specifically designed for cooling systems of large and medium-sized transformer radiators.
