Selecting Cooling Method and Radiator Type Based on Transformer Capacity
Transformer capacity directly determines the amount of heat generated and is the primary basis for selection:
Small Transformers (≤100kVA): With low heat generation, natural oil-air circulation (ONAN) cooling is preferred, and a plate-type radiator is sufficient to meet cooling requirements. Simple structure, no auxiliary equipment energy consumption, suitable for residential areas or small power distribution scenarios.
Medium Transformers (100kVA~630kVA): Increased heat load, oil-immersed air cooling (ONAF) is recommended. This involves adding a fan to a plate-type radiator to force air convection, improving cooling efficiency by approximately 30%~50%.
Large transformers (>630kVA), especially those above 1000kVA, must use forced oil-air cooling (OFAF) or water cooling (ODAF), along with large-size, high-number plate radiators, to ensure that the temperature rise is controlled within 60K.
