Transformer Tank Maintenance Cycle

The maintenance cycle for transformer tanks needs to be dynamically adjusted based on factors such as transformer type, operating environment, and load conditions; there is no fixed annual period. The core principle is to ensure the tank's sealing performance and oil quality stability through daily inspections, regular cleaning, and testing.

Classification by Transformer Type

Oil-Immersed Transformers: The tank is its core component and requires focused maintenance.

Daily Inspections: It is recommended to inspect the tank daily for leaks, deformation, corrosion, oil level, and oil temperature (generally not exceeding 85℃).

Cleaning: Clean the tank monthly or quarterly to remove dust and dirt from the surface to prevent impaired heat dissipation.

Regular Testing: Conduct annually, including oil quality testing (withstand voltage, water content, dielectric loss, etc.) and insulation resistance testing to ensure the insulating oil in the tank meets performance standards.

Dry-Type Transformers: These have no tank structure and do not require this type of maintenance.

Adjustments based on operating environment:

Harsh environments (e.g., outdoors, dusty, humid, chemical areas):
Routine inspections: twice daily or more.
Cleaning cycle: once a month.
Testing cycle: once every six months to prevent corrosion and degradation of insulation performance.

Favorable environments (e.g., indoor substations, data centers):
Routine inspections: once every 2-3 days.
Cleaning cycle: once every 3-6 months.
Testing cycle: once every 1-1.5 years.

Adjustments based on load and importance:

High load or overload operation (>80% rated load):
Inspection and testing cycles should be shortened to once every six months, with a focus on oil temperature and quality changes.

Critical locations (hospitals, airports, data centers):
Shorter maintenance cycles, possibly equipped with real-time monitoring systems to ensure power supply reliability.
