Transformer Tank Installation Steps

Feb 20, 2026

The installation of the transformer tank is the core step in the overall transformer installation. The steps must strictly adhere to technical specifications to ensure equipment safety and stable operation. The installation work is mainly divided into four stages: preliminary preparation, hoisting and positioning, accessory installation, and sealing inspection, as detailed below:

Preliminary Preparation

Technical and Document Verification: Confirm that the transformer model, capacity, wiring group, and other parameters meet the design drawings. Check that the factory certificate of conformity, test reports, and other technical documents are complete.

Site Condition Inspection: The foundation rails should be level, and the track gauge should match the transformer rollers. For transformers equipped with gas relays, the rails need to have a 1%–1.5% slope along the oil tank direction to facilitate gas venting. Check that the pre-embedded anchor bolts are accurately positioned and the grounding system is complete.

Equipment Appearance Inspection: Check the tank for deformation and leakage. Ensure the porcelain bushings are free of cracks, the oil level is normal, and the seal is good.

Lifting and Positioning

Preparation Before Lifting: Verify the orientation of the high and low voltage sides to avoid difficulties in repositioning after installation;
Use a dedicated lifting hook for lifting; never use the top cover lifting ring, which is only used for lifting the core;
The angle between the lifting rope and the plumb line should be less than 30°; otherwise, use a lifting beam.

Smooth Lifting and Transportation: Pause after lifting approximately 100mm to check the securing of the straps;
The tilt angle during transportation must not exceed 15° to prevent internal structural deformation;
When using rollers or a forklift for positioning, take care to protect the porcelain insulators; a wooden crate can be used for covering.

Precise Positioning: Place the transformer on the track and adjust it to the correct position according to the center line and elevation, with an allowable error of ±25mm.
